SANTA FE — Rep. Sarah Maestas Barnes (R-Albuquerque) has sent a letter to New Mexico House and Senate Leaders urging them to include the topics of physical and verbal harassment in their announced mandatory training and “No Harassment” policy revisions. 
 
Maestas Barnes made her request after describing incidents of physical and verbal intimidation she experienced during previous legislative sessions.

Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Shipments Resume

Shipments from Los Alamos National Laboratory to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad resumed Nov. 8. In this photo, the initial shipment is loaded into a Trupact-II container at the Laboratory’s Technical Area 55 Nov. 7. The first shipment was successfully delivered to WIPP and contained sealed radioactive sources from the Off Site Source Recovery Program (OSRP). OSRP is a NNSA program managed by LANL. Since 1997, OSRP has been able to recover more than 39,400 sources from more than 1,390 sites, including all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico and 25 foreign countries. Read More

LANL: First Efficacy Study Announced For HIV-1 Preventive ‘Mosaic’ Vaccine

International partners are announcing the first efficacy study for an investigational HIV-1-preventive “mosaic” vaccine. Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson are joining forces with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and National Institutes of Health on this study, and they have enlisted the aid of top researchers worldwide to conduct the trial.
