ADL Director Speaks At Lunch With A Leader Dec. 15

The League of Women Voters “Lunch with a Leader” is 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 in the upstairs meeting rooms at Mesa Library in Los Alamos. The public is welcome to attend.

Suki Halevi, director of the Anti-Defamation League(ADL) of New Mexico will be the speaker. The  ADL works to combat all hate crimes, bullying and cyberbullying, voter rights, LGBT rights and so on.

Halevi completed her BA at Vassar College, her master’s at Tufts, and her law degree at Duke.  A serious, dedicated woman of principle, she came to Albuquerque

Santa Fe National Forest Closes El Cajete Mine Area

SFNF News:

The Santa Fe National Forest today issued a temporary closure order for the El Cajete pumice mine in the Jemez Ranger District. 

The restricted area, a total of 87 acres, runs north along N.M. 4 between the Sierra Los Pinos subdivision and mile post 34. 

The closure will allow reclamation efforts on the site, including erosion control and revegetation, to stabilize. The order will stay in effect until Oct. 31, 2017, unless it is rescinded earlier.

Appeal Committee Hears Redmond Case Dec. 7

A County Personnel Board Appeal Committee hearing on the termination of former Los Alamos Police Sgt. Jordan Redmond is set for 9 a.m. Monday in the Boards and Commissions Room #110 of the Municipal Building.

Redmond, 32, was arrested Oct. 8 and charged under the Governmental Conduct Act, section 10.16.4.1, Honoraria prohibited, for accepting money for conducting a public duty as a police officer. The GCA forbids public officers from accepting payment or gifts of over $100 in value for performing services
