COUNTY News:
As part of the monthly Los Alamos County Transportation Board meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, board members will hear a presentation on the Atomic City Transit (ACT) Plan under development.
Additionally, board members and transit staff welcome public feedback on the project and encourage the public to join the virtual meeting.
Los Alamos County retained LSC Transportation Consultants, Inc., to prepare a 2022 Short-Range Transit Plan for ACT that will assess how transit conditions have changed, how ACT is performing and potential improvements to the transit system over the next five years. To develop a plan that will tailor transit services to Los Alamos County’s current and near-term future conditions, the consultants conducted several community surveys to inform and support the Plan’s conclusions.
Transit Division Manager Annette Granillo mentioned that the overall study affords staff and the residents of Los Alamos County the chance to take an in-depth look at the transit system. Once the Plan is completed it should identify the optimal manner in which transit services can efficiently meet the public’s needs within Los Alamos County, and strategically identify where transit resources should be devoted over the next five years.
In the end, the study will provide a “business plan” based on public input, which can guide the regional transit program to best meet mobility needs utilizing available resources, Granillo said.
