Kathy Enloe and Elena Guerra were celebrated at a recent meeting for their true dedication to the aims of the organization of “Life, Learning and Friendship.”

“They both live life to the full, whether it is with their families, their church activities or helping their community,” Preceptor Beta President Claire Swinhoe said. “I truly value their friendship and sisterhood.”

This past year, Guerra has been instrumental in organizing gift-giving for the chapter and always does it in a kind and caring way guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

Enloe brings happiness to patients and staff at Los Alamos Medical Center by heading up a Halloween decorating pumpkin activity with a sense of compassion, while being family orientated.

The Masters Degree is the penultimate degree awarded to members of Beta Sigma Phi and recognizes years of service to the community and their sorority.

Guerra and Enloe have been members for more than 25 years and spent countless hours over that time helping with service projects benefiting the Los Alamos community.

“Both ladies truly exemplify the motto of Beta Sigma Phi and are a pleasure to know,” Swinhoe said.

Beta Sigma Phi is a sorority built on the foundation of friendship and culture and lucky for the community of Los Alamos, deeply steeped in service due to the goodwill of the membership. It all began in 1931 with Founder Walter W. Ross and today is present in more than 30 countries building friendships and providing an instant connection for its members wherever they may go.

The Preceptor Beta chapter is a pretty extraordinary group of ladies that do a variety of activities throughout the year. Their work includes:

  • Sponsoring science fair prizes;
  • Recognizing veterans;
  • Wreaths Across America;
  • Coordinating a goody bag drive for seniors at Christmas;
  • Baking brownies for the LAPD, LAFD and district schools; and
  • Sponsoring a tree for the Festival of Trees.

“Beta Sigma Phi fulfills a need that many women have to find friendship, loyalty and, at the same time, help their community with philanthropic activities,” Swinhoe said, “not to mention having social activities and a great deal of fun.”
