Possible Drowning At Cochiti Lake

NMSP News:

COCHITI LAKE/SANDOVAL COUNTY — The New Mexico State Police were asked to assist with a possible drowning victim Saturday at Cochiti Lake, just south of Santa Fe. The subject is believed to be a 34-year-old male from Albuquerque.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the NMSP Dive Team to locate the victim within the lake. Once officers arrived on scene and met with all agencies involved it was determined that the New Mexico State Police would take over the operation.

The New Mexico State Police Dive has been on the water throughout the night and currently still is. They are utilizing sonar equipped boats to help determine the location of the drowned victim. The sonar equipment is utilized to pick up anomalies under the water’s surface, then a diver is put in the water to determine what that item may be.

This is an ongoing investigation, as information becomes available an update will be released.
