Visitors to the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) Visual Art Museum have just a couple weeks to enjoy a pair of popular exhibitions before they close July 26.

What: A pair of art exhibitions – What We Bring to the Table and Aquí Estamos – will close on Sunday, July 26 to make way for new exhibitions and reimagined gallery space. What We Bring to the Table, currently on view in the museum’s Community Gallery, is the museum’s first staff art show, exploring artworks created by the artists who spend their days and nights keeping the Center going.

The next Community Gallery exhibition, titled i thought i saw you yesterday, is the first NHCC exhibition by the new Art Museum curator hazel batrezchavez. It features artworks by nine artists who interweave their memories and ancestral knowledge to create a dialogue between life cycles, food, land, place, and the body. 

Undergoing its first refresh since 2020, Aquí Estamos features selections from the NHCC’s permanent collection, reflecting the complexity of the Hispanic experience and demonstrating that there is no one way to create art that exemplifies what it means to be Hispanic, Chicano, Latinx, or Latin American. Aquí Estamos will reopen with a refreshed selection of artworks exploring catharsis through artworks in the permanent collection later this year!
