Tuesday evening the Topper girls varsity soccer team put their 5-5-1 record on the line against the 6-3 record of the Las Vegas Robertson Cardinals.

Topper freshman, Katie Hopkins, opened scoring in the 10th minute off an assist from Sienna Ahlers. Hopkins scored again in the 15th minute off a beautiful pass from winger junior Abby Schmaltz making the score 2-0.

That score held up through halftime and until the 59th minute when senior co-captain, Jordan Henson, beat the Cardinals defenders on the left flank and buried her shot into the goal for a 3-0 Topper lead. Henson’s goal was followed by a flurry of Topper goals beginning with Katie Hopkins’ “Hat Trick” goal in the 61st minute.

Junior Sienna Ahlers then scored in the 71st minute. Next the Hopkins sisters teamed up to get Katie her 4th goal of the evening on a nice pass from older sister Emily Hopkins.

The 6-0 score was indicative of the Topper dominance. Topper goalies. Anna Lemke and Ashley Atencio, were never challenged because of great defensive play of junior Kayla Parker and senior midfielder Isabelle Runde.

The girls varsity soccer team will host Highland High School at 6 pm. Friday.
