PURGATORY News:

Purgatory Resort will host its annual Pond Skim competition 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3.

A popular favorite for spectators and contestants alike, prizes will be awarded for the best skim (male and female), best wipeout, and best costumes.

There will be live music and Ska Brewing will be onsite pouring beer in the base area.

Space is limited to the first 75 people to sign up Sunday inside the ticket office/will call desk starting at 10 a.m. ($10 entry fee, must be at least 12 years old to participate).

The pond skim is one of the great ski/snowboard traditions dating back to at least the 1950s. Pond skimming is a competition where skiers and snowboarders attempt to skim across a pool of icy water as a final farewell to the winter season. While the origins of the pond skim are unknown, pond skimming is now a spring ritual at Purgatory since 2001.
