Los Alamos police officers and firefighters responded tonight to the scene of an adult male subject who was potentially suicidal on the Omega Bridge.

The officers and firefighters ensured the subject was safe and cleared the scene.

LAPD Cmdr. Oliver Morris spoke with the Los Alamos Daily Post tonight about the situation and explained that because this is deemed a medical call, further information about the subject will not be released.

“This is at least the third incident on the Omega Bridge this year … so we really want to encourage our community members to call 911 immediately if they see anything suspicious on the bridge,” Morris said. “Our citizens are our best asset for these types of situations … if they see something such as someone standing on the edge of the bridge, we want them to call 911 right away.”

Morris also encourages anyone feeling depressed or suicidal to call the crisis line, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year, to speak with a professional counselor trained to assist in these matters. The numbers to the crisis line are 1.855.662.7474 and 1.855.466.7100.
