Police Alert Community of Stolen Checks

POLICE NEWS:

The Los Alamos Police Department has recently become aware of numerous cases where outgoing mail containing checks in residential mailboxes have been stolen.

The checks are then altered by the suspect, and cashed at local financial institutions. We are aware of mail that has been stolen in White Rock, Espanola and Santa Fe. Although the police department is currently working on leads in these cases, we urge community members to place outgoing mail into large post office mail drops or pay bills online.

If you have been a victim in a similar case, notify Det. Paige Early at 662-8274 or call dispatch at 662-8222 to speak to an officer.  As always, call the police department to report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
