I would like to recognize the Pueblo of Pojoaque Boys & Girls Club (Keystone and Torch Club members) for all they do.
This holiday season is no exception to their generosity and willingness to be positive role models.
For the 4th year in a row the Club will participate in the national “Shop with A Cop” program that involves numerous local law enforcement agencies across the country where positive relationships between youth and local law enforcement are created and encouraged.
Saturday, Dec.17th, the Pueblo of Pojoaque Boys & Girls Club will be leading this event in our community. They sought out sponsors to help make the holidays extra special for 15 less fortunate children in the Pojoaque area by donating $100 per child. The names of these children are submitted by teachers from the Pablo Roybal Elementary and Pojoaque Valley Intermediate Schools and then submitted to the Club for this annual event.
Shop with a Cop is an event that officers from the surrounding areas volunteer their time for an entire day to connect with and support a local child in need.
Event goers will gather at the Club in the morning where the selected children will be paired with a police officer and a teenager from one of our leadership groups (Keystone Club or Torch Club). The children will then ride in a police vehicle with their designated officer and Club teen member to Walmart where they will be assisted by the officer and teen in selecting a winter jacket, shirt, pants, shoes or boots, socks, and a toy with a budget of $100.
After shopping at Walmart, they will take them to lunch, followed by a tasty treat from a local ice cream shop, and then to enjoy a movie. Afterwards, everyone heads back to the Club with their designated officer and teenager to meet their parents/guardians.
With the help of sponsors, this experience will give these less fortunate children happy memories that will have a lifelong impact and make for a memorable holiday season!
