PINON PARK POOL News:

Pinon Park Pool is holding the first of its open-to-the-public free swim days Sunday and Monday in White Rock.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to try out the pool for free with no guest passes or membership required,” said Leilani Christensen, president of Pinon Park Pool Association’s Board of Directors.

Anyone can visit the pool and enjoy the crystal-clear water, diving board, slides, kiddie pool, outdoor play area, snack bar, and lounging and picnic facilities 1-6 p.m. Sunday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Children younger than age 18 attending this event must be accompanied by a parent.

Christensen hopes the free swim days will lead to some participants purchasing 2017 memberships, but there is no obligation.

This year, fees for Pinon Park Pool have been reduced from last year’s prices. With four options based on number of family members (1, 2, 3, 4 or more) on the membership, the cost to swim for the summer ranges from only $300 for an individual to $450 for a family of four or more.

The pool opened for the 2017 swim season May 27 and is proving to be a popular place for families to spend time together and cool off as the weather heats up. The pool is known for its quiet, relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in White Rock last year.

Christensen explains her family’s long association with Pinon Park Pool:

“My husband, Rod, was hired as a 15 year old to help survey the property in 1965. He was one of the first members to swim in the pool when it opened in 1966, before he left for college a couple of years later. He was certified as a Red Cross lifeguard in high school, and ended up serving as the lifeguard at the Marine base officers pool while stationed in Hawaii! Now, ironically, 50 years later, he is the Certified Pool Operator at Pinon Park Pool. All five of our children learned to swim at Pinon Park Pool, and have many fond memories of summer days at the pool with friends and visiting cousins.”

Christensen looks forward to seeing many more families enjoying summers at Pinon Park Pool. Pinon Park Pool is at 104 Bryce Ave. in White Rock and is open this summer until Labor Day Weekend. Visit www.PinonPool.com, for more information.
