COUNTY News:

Pile burn operations on Los Alamos County land will continue today and Sunday, Jan. 25.

About 75 piles were burned Friday in the Pueblo Bowl between the Diamond Drive fill bridge, North Road and Sycamore Street. Expect smoky conditions along North Road, Sycamore and Ridgeway. Glowing embers will be visible from North Road and Diamond Drive as the piles burn out after sunset. The Los Alamos Fire Department will monitor the piles in the evenings. Any lingering hot spots will be extinguished by dumping snow onto the piles.

The operation will return to Bayo Canyon through Sunday in about the same location of the burn operation last weekend. Ignition will begin about 9 a.m., depending on the ventilation conditions. Burning will continue through the day today and Sunday.

Lingering smoke may be visible throughout and beyond this period as fire crews monitor the piles and consolidate the material to reduce the volume of smoke.
