Pick Apples And Celebrate Northern New Mexico’s Heritage At Los Luceros Harvest Festival Sunday Sept. 22

ALCALDE — Los Luceros Historic Site (LLHS) invites everyone to join in their largest event of the year, Harvest Festival, which kicks off the apple picking season.

The event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, and the orchard will be open for visitors to pick apples to take home. This family-friendly event celebrates the harvest season, as well as Northern New Mexico’s rich culture and heritage.

“Los Luceros looks forward to welcoming the community to the Harvest Festival. We believe there is something for everyone,” Site Manager Michelle Zupan said.

The annual Harvest Festival also features freshly pressed cider by Pajarito Environmental Education Center, a performance by young folklorico dancers from Moving Arts-Española, music by Johnny Sanchez, wildlife demonstrations by New Mexico Wildlife Center and a Vitalant Blood Mobile blood drive  10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other programming includes children’s art activities, Navajo-Churro sheep wool dying, artist demonstrations and sales, craft vendors, and food trucks. The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Wonders on Wheels mobile museum bus will be at the event touring the farm exhibit “Growing New Mexico.”

Los Luceros Historic Site buildings will also be open for people to walk through, and people can visit with the Navajo-Churro sheep, donkeys and goats living on the farm.

Admission to Los Luceros Harvest Festival is $10 for adults and $5 for children 16 and younger. Tickets are available for purchase online. Free admission to Tribal Affiliation/Members, Disabled Veterans, Museum of New Mexico Foundation members, and DCA Staff/Family is offered at the visitor center.
