Photographer Tony O’Brien Gives Gallery Talk Saturday

Photographer Tony O’Brien, whose exhibit “Light in the Desert: Photographs from the Monastery of Christ in the Desert” is showing in the Upstairs Gallery at Mesa Public Library, will give a gallery talk at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 in the gallery.

O’Brien is a documentary photographer whose work has appeared in many national and international publications. He is the author of a documentary book about the monastic life which has the same title as his current exhibit. He is also the author of “Afghan Dreams: Young Voices of Afghanistan.”

O’Brien will talk about his career and the perils of photojournalism in war-torn lands, as well as give a guided tour of the work in the gallery.

The exhibition was organized by the New Mexico History Museum, Department of Cultural Affairs, State of New Mexico, Santa Fe.

The Upstairs Art Gallery at Mesa Public Library hosts shows by local and regional artists, as well as travelling exhibits, 10 to 12 times each year. Valuable support for the Gallery and many other programs is provided by Friends of the Los Alamos County Libraries.
