Pajarito Brew Pub Enters Girl Scout Cookie Caper

Using Girl Scout Samoas, Richmond received raves for his special pastry but in the end, the chef from the Inn and Spa at Loretto took the top spot. The Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails volunteers organized the 17th annual Cookie Caper, which raises money for the organization that funds two-thirds of the troops and programs throughout the state.

Once again, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos, I would like to thank our many friends in the community for their recent support of this month’s Cowboy Pancake Breakfast, which benefited our Club’s local and international projects. 

More than 250 tickets were sold to the hungry breakfast crowd Sunday morning.

Volunteers Needed to Plant Trees; Post Las Conchas Fire

SFNF News:

The Santa Fe National Forest is seeking volunteers for tree planting efforts within the 2011 Las Conchas fire burn area near Los Alamos.

Exact dates are dependent upon weather, soil moistures and soil temperatures, but possible dates are the Fridays and Saturdays of April 12, 13 and 19, 20.

A 56-acre area around the Nordic Ski Trails at the base of Pajarito Ski Hill within the burn area will be planted with Douglas Fir trees.

The effort is part of a larger contracted planting initiative mostly in the Jemez District involving about 2,000 acres and almost half a million trees.

EGGSTRAVAGANZA Rolls Out March 31 at Golf Course!

It is that time of year again and everyones invited to the annual EGGSTRAVAGANZA at the Los Alamos Golf Course!

Over the past several years, the popular event has grown from participation of 500 kids to well over 800 last year.

It has become a huge community event, with participation from surrounding cities.

Last year 10,000 goody-filled plastic eggs were spread over the Los Alamos Golf Course and more than 800 kids ages 12

Dietitian Sara Pocernik Joins YMCA Staff

Dietitian Sara Pocernik has joined the staff of the Los Alamos Family YMCA.

Pocernik is a registered dietitian with experience in many areas of nutrition.  

She completed her bachelor’s degree in dietetics and nutrition science at Michigan State University, and a master’s degree in nutritional biochemistry at Tufts University.

She has also worked as a clinical dietitian in intensive care and dialysis units.

Pocernik is accepting Personal Nutrition Counseling appointments Fridays at the Y.
