OBITUARY: CAROL ANN HANSON Jan. 4, 1943-Aug. 7, 2012

Carol Ann Hanson passed away unexpectedly Aug. 7, 2012 in Houston, Texas, at the age of 69.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1943 in Los Angeles, Calif., to Julia and John Koenig, the first of four children.

Carol attended California State College at Northridge and UCLA, where she graduated with a degree in teaching English as a second language.

She was awarded a master's degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Oregon in Eugene, where she met her husband David Hanson while working in the Physics Department.

They were married in Cove,

The Charter Review Committee ... How it All Got Started

With the election on the horizon, most are aware of the fact that there will be four questions on the ballot that relate to potential changes to the Charter for the County of Los Alamos, New Mexico. 

Specifically, the questions for consideration for the November 2012 election deal with the provisions for Initiative, Referendum and Recall. 

I believe it would be helpful to provide a little background on why the Charter Review Committee was formed and outline exactly what the Council tasked the Committee to do.

United Church Undergoing $2.4 Million Renovation

UNITED CHURCH News:

The United Church of Los Alamos is under construction. The $2.4 million renovation project includes most of the campus, including the Christian Education Building, Sanctuary, Thrift Shop and parking lots at 2525 Canyon Road. 

An elevator and atrium are being installed in the Christian Education Building.

The church had a successful fund raising campaign earlier this year that has allowed it to proceed with this major project.

Jane Johnson Guides Students Toward Class

“There are a number of reasons that students have unexcused absences,” Johnson said. “Some students, in the beginning, think they can get by with ditching and no one will notice or care, or they just don’t feel like going to class that day. Some students will ditch a class when they have a test coming up that they don’t feel prepared to take. They sometimes skip one class and use that time to prepare for the next class.

'Hilltoppers Give Back' Work Party Set for Saturday

LAPSF News:

The LAPS Foundation invites Los Alamos High School alumni, current students, friends and parents of current and past students to help spruce up Los Alamos High School at a work party from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 25.

Using bond funds, the community and the schools have completed a wonderful new building, but there is still some work to be done.
