PEEC News:

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) has lined up several exclusive small-group “Take Wing” tours of the Smart House, as a “thank you” to donors for their gifts of $150 or more to its capital campaign.

The first tour is scheduled for 4-5 p.m., Friday, July 11. Eligible donors can sign up at PEEC’s website or by calling PEEC. Space is limited to 15.

The capital campaign is raising funds for the exhibits and gardens at the new Los Alamos County Nature center, slated to open in Spring, 2015. PEEC has reached roughly 85 percent of its fundraising goal.

The guided tour will allow participants a rare look at the 2,418 square foot structure that pairs a solar system with a lithium-ion battery system, a heat pump storage unit and sensors and communication equipment. The tour will meet at the Smart House on Trinity Drive.

Other tours are scheduled for Aug. 8,
 Sept. 12 and
Oct. 10.
