Celebrate Earth Day early by helping improve one of the local trails. Join Pajarito Environmental Education Center and the Santa Fe National Forest for a work day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 14 on Cabra Loop Trail. This event is free to attend, but registration is required.
There will be trail maintenance jobs for all ages and U.S. Forest Service experts will be on-site to ensure the safety of participants and provide instructions. The goal of this work day will be to clear over-hanging brush and improve drainage features along the trail. Volunteers are needed who can use Pulaskis, McLeods and shovels to improve drainage. Other teams will work on removing the overhanging brush along the trail.
Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy boots, hat and work gloves. Bring water, snacks and a lunch. Hard hats, some tools, some extra pairs of gloves and good company will be provided. Attendees are welcome to bring their own tools if they prefer. Pre-registration is required for this project at peecnature.org. The group will meet at 9 a.m. at the Los Alamos Nature Center and carpool to the trailhead.
