PEEC News:
PEEC is excited to announce that it has been selected by NASA to be a Community Anchor institution. The designation as a Community Anchor recognizes institutions as local hubs bringing NASA STEM and space science to students and families in traditionally underserved areas. The agency has selected 17 institutions across the country to receive more than $660,000 in grants to help enhance local impact and strengthen their ability to build sustainable connections between their communities and NASA. PEEC is grateful to be one of the 17 selected.
This opportunity will bring solar system science activities and planetarium visits to a wider northern New Mexico audience. One of the goals of this project is to inspire students with the scope of space-related science activities happening in New Mexico and to help them dream beyond being an astronaut to explore space. The NASA funding will help pay for buses for northern New Mexico students to travel to the planetarium, as well as fund educator visits and Family Star Nights at regional schools and community centers.
These opportunities will be geared toward both 4th-6th graders and for local community events, with the goal of serving 1300 people within the two-year project. Utilizing the NASAÂ theme The Solar System and Beyond, PEEC will introduce students to relatable role models and help them realize their own scientific potential.
