PEEC News:

Akkana Peck and David North will share why noon isn’t really noon, why the solstice and the earliest sunset are on different days, and other anomalies of Earth’s orbit at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 in the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium.

Peck and North will investigate how anomalies of the Earth’s orbit affects life on Earth (and on other planets). They are enthusiastic lunar observers. North popularized the term “shallow sky” for observing objects in our solar system (as opposed to “deep sky” observing of galaxies and nebulae), while Peck runs the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Moon website, http://shallowsky.com/moon/.

Phantom of the Universe, a film that uncovers the mystery of dark matter, can be seen at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 in the nature center planetarium. The film traces existence back to its beginning, stretching through space and time to reveal its unique connection to the Large Hadron Collider.

For more information about this and future planetarium shows, visit www.peecnature.org/plane tarium. To reserve tickets ($6/adult and $4/child), call 505.662.0460.
