SANTA FE — The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) announces that Tara Hughes, New Mexico’s Teacher of the Year, will be honored at 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 in Rotunda Hall of the New Mexico State Capitol at 490 Old Santa Fe Trail.

Among those in attendance will be her family, colleagues from the Nye Early Childhood Learning Center where she teaches, and representatives from Santa Fe Public School.

The Teacher of the Year program is sponsored by the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association.

Hughes is in the running for the national Teacher of the Year. She is the first early childhood teacher who has received the honor in New Mexico and one of only two pre-kindergarten state Teachers of the Year across the country this year.

National finalists will be announced later this month.
