The RE/MAX of Los Alamos real estate office will have a new owner in August. Current owners Kendra and Paul Henning are passing the torch to their RE/MAX colleague Chris Ortega.

The RE/MAX office has been in Los Alamos for 20 years with a long tradition of local ownership. Jim Gautier founded the office in 1995. Upon his retirement in 1999, RE/MAX colleague Nancy Mroz and her husband Gene purchased the company. When they retired in 2007, the couple sold the office to Kendra and Paul. The tradition now continues with Ortega.

Ortega has close ties to the real estate industry as the 10-year owner and principal of an appraisal company. He’s worked closely with local Realtors, lenders and other trade professionals. He’s also a Los Alamos native, father to three daughters and husband to United Way of Northern New Mexico Director Kristy Ortega. He has the support of the entire team of 15 RE/MAX agents and staff, and he’s excited about this new business opportunity.

“As a native to Los Alamos, it is important for us to find ways to stay involved and serve our community. Kendra and previous owners have done a phenomenal job getting RE/MAX to where it is today,” Ortega said.  “RE/MAX of Los Alamos has sold over 2,000 homes in the last 10 years, and has been involved in 72 percent of all home sales in Los Alamos County. The RE/MAX team has over 160 combined years of experience in real estate, and over 260 combined years of residence in Los Alamos.”

Kendra Henning has been the qualifying broker/owner of RE/MAX for the past eight years, and a RE/MAX Realtor for 13 years. In 2013, the Henning’s and their business partners Jeff Fenton and Chris Martinez opened Reside Home, a furniture and interior design showroom in Santa Fe. Kendra will now be shifting her attention to Reside Home full time.

She reminisces that, “Everyone at RE/MAX has been a colleague and friend to me over the years. We’ve learned and laughed together, and shared quite a few personal and real estate adventures. I feel really good knowing that the office is in great hands with a bright future under Chris’ leadership.”

Ortega added that, “Every member of this amazing team is on board with this change of ownership, and we look forward to continuing to serve you. I joined RE/MAX as a Realtor because of the office’s reputation for customer service, professionalism and success. It’s my goal to maintain our position as market leaders and community leaders. I really appreciate all the encouragement I’ve received from Kendra and Paul and the entire RE/MAX team. It’s a great office, and I’m proud to carry it forward.”
