GIRL SCOUT News:
Who would have thought you could make the iconic Girl Scout Cookie even tastier? More than a dozen chefs are taking on the challenge to make either sweet or savory creations for the Girl Scout Cookie Challenge, including Los Alamos’ own Pajarito Brew Pub.
Originally, this event was the Girl Scout Cookie Caper, taking place in Santa Fe for the past 19 years. The Cookie Caper was a gala event for adults, with primarily northern New Mexico chefs creating desserts with Girl Scout Cookies.
It was decided to open up the event to a broader audience. The event was moved to Albuquerque and chefs were asked to make sweet OR savory creations, and it was opened to families. The event was renamed the Girl Scout Cookie Challenge.
Chefs will be sharing their sweet or savory creations – bite-sized samples, highlighting Girl Scout Cookies. Some chefs will also create a showpiece that will be auctioned off. There will be activities for the kids – cookie box jenga, face painting, and more. On the stage, there will be chef demonstrations, a cookie eating contest and awards.
Current participating restaurants include: ABQ Grill at the Sheraton Uptown, Bravo! Cucina Italiana, Chocolate Cartel, Flying Star, Hyatt Tamaya, La Fonda del Bosque, La Quiche Parisienne, Meals on Wheels, M’tucci’s Kitchina, Osteria d’ Assissi, Pajarito Brew Pub, Pasion Latin Fusion, P’tit Louis Bistro, RealBurger, Rebel Donut, The Sassy Apron, Savory Fare, and Smallcakes: A Cupcakery.
Award categories will be: Best Sweet Creation, Best Savory Creation, Most Creative, Best in Show, and Mina’s Dish (in memory of Mina Yamashita, Alibi contributor and Cookie Caper/Challenge committee member).
The event is 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown. Registration is available online ($7 early bird by Feb. 1 or $10 after Feb. 1 online and at the door.) Tasting tickets are $2 each. Register online at nmgirlscouts.org.
