Star Gaze With Pajarito Astronomers At Overlook Park Tonight!

Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.

Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields tonight, Sept. 16, at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 8 p.m. until at least 11 p.m. and as late as midnight if there is continued interest.

SANTA FE — Sept. 17-23 is National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week. The campaign focuses on the importance of properly securing children in an appropriate car or booster seat. To support the nationwide event, the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division (NMDOT TSD) will sponsor Car Seat Inspection Clinics from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, as part of National Seat Check Saturday.

The Los Alamos County Community Service Department (CSD) is seeking feedback for several identified amenities within Los Alamos, Canyon Road Tennis Courts, Canyon Road handball wall, Nina Marsh Tennis Courts, Orange Street playlot and Loma Linda Playground.

Skolnik: West Nile And New Mexico – What Is The New Mexico Department Of Health Doing?

Although the burden of disease and deaths from West Nile virus is low, this disease still concerns people, especially when infected birds die and are found on or around school grounds, among other places.

To date, we have received no communications from the NM Department of Health or Los Alamos County about what either is doing to address West Nile virus in either Los Alamos or in the state. 

In this light, I wrote to the Deputy Secretary of Health, Dr. Laura Parajon, about this matter and she kindly passed my questions on to Dr. Chad Smelzer, the Deputy State Epidemiologist. Read More
