County To Begin Annual Weed Spraying Operation

COUNTY News:

The County of Los Alamos Traffic & Streets Division will begin spraying herbicide for weed control on local streets starting next week.

Certified applicators will be applying the herbicide along the gutter/pavement lines throughout the community, on County streets.

The products, DuPont Hyvar X-L and Monsanto Ranger Pro, will be applied during either early morning or late evenings as weather conditions permit. This work will occur on Tuesdays through Thursdays, and continue as needed into June as some areas may require more than one application.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Energy released information on the first six public meetings to collect stakeholder input into the Quadrennial Energy Review (QER).

As the Secretariat for the QER Task Force, DOE will hold a series of meetings to discuss and receive comments on issues related to the development of a comprehensive strategy for the infrastructure needed to transport, transmit and deliver energy to consumers.

Teens who receive a zero tolerance message from their parents, that underage drinking is completely unacceptable, are more than 80 percent less likely to drink than teens who receive other messages, according to new data from a national survey of high school students.

I-25 Road Rehabilitation Work Begins April 10

NMDOT News:

Santa Fe – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will start roadway rehabilitation work the week of April 7 on Interstate 25 north of Santa Fe between Canoncito and Glorieta (mile post 294.5 – 299.5). 

There will be intermittent single lane closures starting on the northbound lanes of I-25 and then moving to the southbound lanes of I-25. Motorists can expect minor delays 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the work week.

Volunteers Invited To Plant Trees Along 501 Corridor In Los Alamos

SFNF News:

Santa Fe National Forest is seeking volunteers to plant trees within the 2011 Las Conchas Fire burn area, near Los Alamos. This activity will take place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 19 at the Pajarito Canyon Trailhead, just south of the Pajarito Ski Hill turn off.

Douglas fir trees will be planted on 14 acres along the 501 corridor as part of a larger planting initiative. The trees were ordered in the fall of 2011, immediately after the Las Conchas Fire. Local seed stock was germinated in the spring of 2013 and the trees are now ready for planting.
