Letter to the Editor: Response to Central Avenue Improvements Letter

By GERALD ANTOS
Los Alamos

In regards to Christine Weaver’s letter about construction on Central Avenue … didn’t you know it’s very rude to criticize a teenager when he is using daddy’s credit card to spend money like there is no tomorrow even if it does inconvenience absolutely everyone in the community?

It’s common knowledge that our County government has a real control issue when it comes to spending our tax dollars but to publicly confront them on it is something that they just can stand!

Since they are going to be chopping down some of the most beautiful trees in the Read More

Beguin: Medicine Plants on the Pajarito Plateau

Medicine Plants of the Pajarito Plateau
By KRISTI BEGUIN
Los Alamos

My last column talked about five common medicinal plants found in most gardens and landscapes in the Mountain West.

Now we will move out into our local canyons and take a look at easy-to-identify medicine plants found there.

Despite wildfire and flooding, the canyons of the Pajarito Plateau remain a verdant realm of greenery. When my soul grows weary from the lack of large trees in my neighborhood, I know that I can head into any one of the canyons and escape into a world filled with plants, shrubs and trees, and I can hear my Read More

U.S. Sen. Tom Udall

U.S. SENATE News:

U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision to protect corporate interests while rolling back women’s access to contraception:

“Today, the U.S. Supreme Court got it wrong. The Court’s ruling in Hobby Lobby is a step backward for women’s health and another disturbing decision in which the justices put corporate interests ahead of American citizens. Nearly every woman in the United States will use birth control at some point in her life. Letter to the Editor: County Planning

By CHRISTINE WEAVER
Los Alamos

Hooray for Los Alamos County project planning office. In a town full of geniuses, it’s amazing that none of them work for the county. We will now have the two major thoroughfares in town under construction at the same time.

Trinity Drive is “supposed” to be completed by July 16, but when have we ever had a road project completed on time. The Central Avenue project is due to be completed in 60 days … RIGHT!

In the meantime, when visitors ask directions from one end of town to the other, the response will have to be, “You can’t Read More
