BBBS Charity Golf Tournament July 26

The Los Alamos Golf Course is hosting the “Drive For Matches” Golf Tournament, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) in Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties.
The event is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with tee-off at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 26. This event will help BBBS support existing matches and goes toward matching more local children with caring adult mentors.

Fencing Replacement at Two County Parks Underway

Users of Barranca Mesa and Rover Parks will see construction activity over the next week as County contractors work to replace aging fencing around each park area.
Work will take place during the week and is already underway this morning at Rover Park with a planned completion date of Wednesday, July 16. Work begins on the fencing around Barranca Mesa Park either Monday or Tuesday, July 14 or 15 and should conclude by Friday, July 1).

Results for this summer’s second Triatomics Splash n Dash are in and listed below. The next Splash n Dash is set for July 23. Registration opens at 6:20 p.m., instructions at 6:50 p.m. and the first swimmer is off at 7 p.m. sharp.
Participation is free but limited to the first 75 athletes.
There will be an award at Splash n Dash #4 for anybody who participates in three or more of the Splash n Dashes this summer.

The Los Alamos Kiwanis Club presented Lauren TenCate with a scholarship this past Tuesday. Lauren was recognized for her participation in community activities such as the Cafe Scientifique Youth Leadership Team, UNM-LA Kids College, Empty Bowls, and the Bradbury Science Museum High Tech Halloween.

DAVID W. STEINHAUS July 29, 1919 – July 9, 2014
David W. Steinhaus, 94, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2014. David was born in Neillsville, Wis., July 29, 1919.
His service in the army began in 1945. David’s military decorations included a Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Army Commendation Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon. He was married to his loving wife, Jean, on January 1, 1949, in Hancock, Md. David earned a PhD in Physics at Johns Hopkins University in 1952.
