Council Approves Increase In Compensation For Elected Officials

Councilor David Izraelevitz and five other councilors voted this evening to approve an increase in compensation for elected officials. Council Chair Geoff Rodgers voted against the measure saying it in no way was a reflection of the elected officials but rather a personal decision. As an appointed councilor, Izraelevitz is running for election Nov. 4 and this pay increase goes into effect Jan. 1, 2015 for all newly elected officials, which means if elected, he will benefit from the vote. BPU Transparency Concerns Raised During Public Comment At Council Meeting

During public comment this evening in Council Chambers, Christine Chandler played a portion of a tape of a recent meeting of the Board of Public Utilities in which board members were discussing the possible purchase of a coal mine. Chandler encouraged the Council to find a way to have the BPU hold its meetings where they can be recorded and those recordings be placed in an easily accessible location for the public. Personnel Board Chair Terry Priestley Briefs Council

Personnel Board Chair Terry Priestley briefed Council this evening on the activities of the Personnel Board. Council leadership has requested that each Board/Commission chair make a presentation to the Council once a year focused on what has been completed and what they are currently working on, and what challenges or opportunities they see coming up in the future. Priestley explained that the purpose of the Personnel Board is to serve in an appellate and advisory capacity in the administration of the County personnel program. The Board also may act as an appellate body to hear personnel complaints. Read More

Aspen Elementary Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Nov. 17

ASPEN News:

Aspen Elementary School will celebrate the completion of its newly built and renovated school by hosting an open house/ribbon cutting ceremony Nov. 17.

The event is 4:30-6 p.m. with opening remarks beginning at 4:30 p.m. Aspen’s Tiger Choir will perform. Following the ribbon cutting, guests will take self-guided tours. Staff members will be available to answer guests’ questions. Cake will be served in the new Dining Hall near the end of the event.

WIPP Continues To Restore Activities Underground

WIPP employees recently completed the 100th entry into the WIPP underground facility since the February events that temporarily shut down access.

Gao, the son of Jun Gao and Hongzhao Tian, earned this opportunity after winning the Junior Division of the MTNA Statewide Piano Competition.
