Three YMCA Basketball Skills Workshops Begin Saturday

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA is hosting three Saturday morning basketball-skill sessions to help new players learn basic skills.

The fundamentals program will be led by Y volunteer coaches and run 9-11 a.m. Nov. 8, 15 and 22 in the YMCA gymnasium at 1450 Iris St. in Los Alamos.

The sessions are open to youth registered for the Y’s Youth Basketball Program, but potential basketball players are welcome to come check it out to see if they want to join. The Los Alamos School Board will hold a Special School Board Meeting and Executive Session at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov.10 in the School Board Room at the Los Alamos Public Schools Administration Building.

The Los Alamos Genealogical Association meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at Mesa Public Library.

Annual Holiday Crafts Fair Saturday

Beta Sigma Phi’s Xi Nu Chapter is hosting its 27th annual craft fair 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday at Crossroads Bible Church.

The event features more than 45 vendors kicking off the holiday season. Live music, baked goods and more than 50 raffle items are up for grabs for a $1 charge. Items include jewelry, wood crafts, fiber arts, traditional knitting, crochet, sewing and more.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Treasury Department today announced that New Mexico has received $4,477,239 in State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) funds to help small businesses access the capital they need to grow and create jobs.

To date, $13,168,350 in SSBCI funds have been disbursed to the New Mexico Economic Development Department and the New Mexico Finance Authority to support businesses and the local economy.

PEEC kicked off its Annual Fund Drive Nov. 1, with a goal of raising $15,000 to support the costs of operating the nature center all year long and providing free or low cost nature programs to the community.

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest will waive fees at many recreation sites and amenities over the Veterans Day weekend from Nov. 8-11.

“We honor our veterans each Nov. 11 and every other day of the year,” U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell said. “We hope that this time will serve as a way for our veterans and other visitors to find our national forests and grasslands as a year-round respite, a place where they can take time out for themselves.”

Red Cross Babysitters Course Offered At Y Express

The Family YMCA’s American Red Cross Babysitters Course is 4-8:30 p.m., Nov. 7 and 1-5:30 p.m., Nov. 8.

The course is designed by the American Red Cross to prepare youth with training in babysitter safety, basic child care, safe play, first aid and critical emergency skills, essential professional, leadership and care-giving skills, and how to manage real-life problems.
