COMMUNITY News:
Last week, a White Rock Brownie Troop celebrated the end of a fun-filled, event-filled year of girl scouting with a swim party at Piñon Park Pool in White Rock. For a swim party, there was very little actual swimming done, as the girls were too busy having a blast splashing around, playing on pool floats, playing Marco-Polo, and going off the diving board.
Community members can give White Rock’s Piñon Park Pool a try during Free Open Swim Days 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Monday.

Pastor Granillo: Fashionable Christians
When I was 14 years old, I was certain that if I had a pair of Bugle Boy jeans I would get that call from a mysterious lady asking, “Excuse me; are those Bugle Boy jeans you’re wearing?”
O.K., maybe that’s a stretch, but I had no doubt that if I could get my hands on a pair my status in Jr. High would drastically change. It certainly couldn’t hurt. I needed something to prove that I wasn’t just another dork in the halls. Fashion had the potential to make or break a person in Jr. High. It still has a great power in every aspect of our lives.
There is something about fashion that we Read More

Feathered Foursome Spotted In La Senda Tree Are Likely Great Horned Owlets
Many readers have asked which type these four baby owls are, spotted recently in trees in the backyard of a home in the La Senda neighborhood in White Rock. Pajarito Environmental Education Center bird expert David Yeamans explains that their posture, size and small head/body ratio are suggestive of a large owl. ‘The ear tufts are nearly positive for great horned, which is common and abundant for owls here. All that plus the look of the facial disk makes me believe they are great horned owlets, not spotted, barred or screech,’ Yeamans said. Photo by Heath and Alison Read More
