Patti Jo Daugharty passed away peacefully on September 4, 2015 following a several year battle with kidney failure and related health issues.
Patti is survived by her husband, John Daugharty, and daughter, Brandi Engeman of Los Alamos; her granddaughter, Romilly; her mother, Jan Anders of Tucson, Arizona; her sister Jonna Adams of Pasco, Washington; her brother Mike Durkin, of Littleton, Colorado; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Margaret “Peggy” Ehrenkranz, 88, former Los Alamos resident, passed away peacefully in Arlington, Virginia, on September 19, 2015. A graveside service will be held at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 26, 2015.
Born on April 3, 1927, in Easton, Pennsylvania, Peggy was a graduate of Wilson College, wife of the late Theodore E. Ehrenkranz, and resident of Los Alamos from 1959-2007.

If the Los Alamos County Sheriff is nothing more than a “hollow-shell”, as George Chandler would have us believe, then the council should put it to the citizens to have that position removed from the LAC charter and ALL of that position’s responsibilities (paper pushing is how I imagine Chandler sees the position) given to the LAC Police Department. Letter To The Editor: Council Has Indisputably Assigned Police Department All Law Enforcement Authority
My friend and County Councilor Pete Sheehey wrote recently in this space concluding that the Los Alamos County Sheriff retains “powers of a peace officer” and cites County Ordinance 38-97(C): “… nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit the arrest, without warrant, by a peace officer of any person when probable cause exists to believe that a felony crime has been committed or in non-traffic cases.”
Unfortunately this quote is taken out of context – what is contained in the leading ellipsis is critical – and misinterprets

Redmond will talk about “How to Write a Marketable Children’s Book in 7 Weeks” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Upstairs Rotunda at Mesa Public Library. She has graciously agreed to fill in for the previously scheduled author Doug Fine, who was unable to come.

SANTA FE – The Los Alamos Fire Department, with the assistance of the Santa Fe National Forest, is planning to conduct a prescribed burn on 26 acres of Los Alamos County open space on one of the following days, Sept. 25, 26 or 27, depending on weather.
The area to be burned is in the upper reaches of Pueblo Canyon east of the Aquatic Center.
