This annual award seeks to promote enhancement of student achievement and focus the Los Alamos School Board on efforts to improve student achievement. The nominee is a person in the Los Alamos School District who has made a significant difference in student achievement.

The Los Alamos High School Boys Varsity Tennis team finished first at the March 25-26 Taos team tournament. 

The schools involved were Taos High School, Farmington High, Espanola Valley High, and Palo Duro High School from Amarillo, Texas.

This N.M. 502 project may be a state project, but LAC has funding participation AND is the requester of (1) the roundabout and (2) a different Canyon Road configuration than the state was planning to construct.

Guinea pigs. That’s what we are going to be next year when the new roundabout is built at the intersection of Trinity and Central just east of the Hilltop House.
 
It will be a grand experiment to see how well we can learn new tricks. Of course, it will impact more than just Los Alamos residents. Commuters and visitors will also need to learn the new rules and develop new skills.

Canyon Rim Trail Closing For Fuels Reduction Work

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Fire Department will be closing a portion of the Canyon Rim Trail near Fire Station #6 in order for crews to complete fuels reduction (tree thinning) activities on the following three weekends, weather permitting:

  • April 2, 3;
  • April 16, 17; and
  • April 30 and May 1.

Activities will extend approximately ¼ mile along the west end of the trail. LAFD is coordinating signage and trail closure with Open Space & Trails Specialist Eric Peterson. The trail will remain open on the east end (at the trailhead, across from Entrada Business Park.)

Howard Overton Richerson, 85, a resident of Los Alamos, born April 13, 1930, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel (Scott) and Freida Richerson; siblings, Barbara Winters, Geraldine Wade and Nathaniel (Bud) Richerson; children, Rebecca Richerson-Farris and Jeffery Richerson. Howard grew up with an appreciation for the mountains and the landscape of the Southwest. He moved to Los Alamos where he met and married his wife Carmen.
