The boys that I coach often hear two phrases from me: “Hustle!” and “Swing Big!” These are common phrases for any little league coach, and any parent can expect to hear them at their child’s baseball game. David Rust, 35, of Los Alamos, NM, unexpectedly passed away this week on April 28th.
 
He leaves behind his wife, Tara, and daughter, Sophia, two step children, Kayden and Madilyn, parents Terry and Jane Rust of White Rock, two sisters, Sarah and Bethany and numerous friends.
 
The family would like to hold a reception on Saturday, April 30th at 118 Beryl from 2-5pm in White Rock to honor his memory. All friends are welcome to attend and share memories. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

Taiji In The Park Starts First Week Of May

Free Taiji and Qigong practices begin next week at the Pavilion at Ashley Pond Park:

  • Thursdays 10-11 a.m., beginning May 5;
  • Saturdays 10-11 a.m. beginning May 7; and
  • Mondays 7-8 p.m. beginning May 9.

The program is for adults and children age 8 and up and no previous experience necessary.

Follow along, beginning with a walk around the pond to pick up trash, followed by simple stretching and the Taiji Qigong 18 Form routine. Go over the Yang-style 24 Form Taiji sequence twice, with limited instructions.

Interment And Memorial Service For Jeanne Houtz

The final interment for Jeanne Houtz, who passed away on September 25, 2015, will be held on Tuesday, May 17 at 1:30 PM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM.

Her remains will be interred with her husband, Harry E. Houtz, who passed away in 1999. Friends of Jeanne are invited to attend this service.

Jeanne Carpenter Houtz, 93, died quietly in her sleep on Friday, September 25, 2015, in Chandler, AZ.

FBI And Law Enforcement Partners Target Prison Gang In New Mexico – Seek Three Fugitives

FBI News:

A team of federal, state, and local law enforcement officers Thursday executed 22 arrest warrants (21 federal, one state) and search warrants on eight residences in connection with an operation targeting the Syndicato de Nuevo Mexico (SNM) Prison Gang.

Nine individuals were arrested by teams composed of Albuquerque and El Paso FBI SWAT teams, U.S. Marshals Service, and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team. Another 10 defendants were transferred from the custody of the New Mexico Department of Corrections to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Well maintained equipment is key to a successful canning season. This is especially true for pressure canners. To begin, check any rubber gaskets for cracks.
 
Rubber that has dried out, cracked or broken can result in a loose seal and not being able to reach the appropriate pressure. New gaskets can be purchased from the manufacturer or at our local hardware store. Gloria Louisa Cordova, long-time Los Alamos resident, passed away on April 18, 2016 after a 16-month struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Gloria was born in Trinidad Colo. on July 31, 1938. After high school she joined the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati and graduated from their Mount St. Joseph College with a B. S. degree in chemistry. She taught math and chemistry in high schools in Denver and Trinidad, and then after leaving the community, moved to Los Alamos where she taught chemistry at the high school for 10 years.
