Science On Tap happens every third Thursday of the month, featuring a new topic each time. This month, Cathy Wilson will discuss climate change at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at UnQuarked Wine Room, 145 Central Park Square. in Los Alamos .

Wilson, who heads Los Alamos Nationalal Laboratory’s Atmosphere, Climate and Ecosystem Science team, is working to better understand what happens when warming climate causes Arctic permafrost to thaw. God tells the prophet, Isaiah, that the Hebrew people “seem” to be eager to know God’s ways. He tells Isaiah that they act like a nation that is doing what is right. They ask God to make just decisions for them, and they “seem” to “be eager for God to come close to them” (Isaiah 58:1-2).

Pat Soran was recently chosen by unanimous vote of the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Advisory Board to fill a position on the board vacated when Michael DiRosa resigned to accept a change of station to the Pentagon.

Applications are being accepted until May 27 to fill one position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

Prescribed Burn Planned On Española Ranger District

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest hope to take advantage of current conditions to conduct the previously announced Mesitas prescribed burn on the Española Ranger District this week. 
 
The 1,700-acre treatment area is located approximately six miles southwest of Abiquiu, 15 miles north of Los Alamos and 15 miles northwest of Española. Once ignitions have started, they are expected to last two to five days.

New Mexico Secretary of Education Hanna Skandera stopped by the Los Alamos Daily Post newspaper office Friday following her visit to Aspen Elementary School.
