Sheehey: Why I’m Running For Re-Election To Council
When I knocked on doors four years ago and asked people what they wanted from county government, they told me to go ahead with the most important investments for our future, but don’t spend too much, and make sure we get good value for taxpayers’ dollars. That’s what I have worked for.
I am focused as a Councilor on working toward a better future for this town, based upon listening to the community. A growing and diversified local economy will make this a better place for all of us, and for the Lab to attract good people and their Read More

Letter To The Editor: Councilors And Candidates, Take Notice … There Are Many Who Care … Do You?
Thank you, Khalil Spencer, (letter) for speaking out for those who need basic services in this town.
Why are these services disappearing? As I watched those doing their laundry on the last days that our only self-serve laundry was open, I also wondered how people could stay in this town and work without such necessities. I could imagine myself in that position because I also relied on self-service laundry for many, many years. A neighborhood without a laundry facility was uninhabitable for me.
I find that in our pursuit for a grocery store with Read More
How The Hen House Turns: Living Peacefully With Others
As a metaphor for our relationship with animals, the Hen House is Turning, in significant in several ways. We housed and loved many animals in our 46 years in Los Alamos. They added more than one dimension to our lives.
We humans have been both friends and users of our fellow creatures over many thousands of years. Domestication has been a mixed blessing for some, like silk worms, and a remarkable partnership for others—the dog and its genetic modification from wolves, through kindness and eye-contact, being Read More

Smart Design With Suzette: The Power Of Paint
Recently, I decided to tackle some home projects that I have meaning to do for a while. I have to say the projects that make the biggest transformation have to do with paint.
The power of paint is undeniable. For about $30 a gallon, paint can do wonders.
Here are some before and after photos of my very own projects, at my house, that say just that.

Letter To The Letter: LANL Bypass Needed
Gail Little’s recent letter to the Los Alamos Daily Post describing her encounter with LANL security reminded me of a similar incident in which I was involved last year. Several of us went over to the area on LANL property where the (last?) sale of discarded Lab equipment and furniture was going to be held the following morning so we could take a look (through the fence) at what was going to be up for sale.
Unbeknownst to us, this was a violation of LANL security and a truck drove up to us and a security guard got out carrying an AK47-type weapon. Like Ms. Little, we explained Read More

Letter To The Editor: A Breath Of Fresh Air, Justice Judy Nakamura For New Mexico Supreme Court
Some things that have been around for about 40 years are musty or crusty and need to be aired out. They still need just a freshening of good fresh air.
The New Mexico Supreme Court has been completely packed with Democratic Party judges since 1980. One philosophy of government and that is probably not the best thing for the people of New Mexico.
Recently there has been that breath of fresh air in the person of Justice Judith Nakamura, a Republican. She was appointed by Gov. Susana Martinez to fill the vacancy left by Judge Bratton. Judith (*Judy) Nakamura is no stranger to
McQuiston: Tips To Burglarproof Your Home In Summer
Summer has finally arrived! Between record snow storms, flooding, and hail, I thought it would never get here.
Thankfully, vacation season is upon us but that means burglaries will inherently increase. Each year, there are more than 2 million burglaries, over 65 percent of which are residential break-ins, with the majority occurring in the peak vacation months of July and August. Furthermore, nine out of 10 home break-ins could be prevented if homeowners would take simple steps to burglarproof their homes.
Here are some tips that can help you protect your Read More
