Vietnam Veterans Organization Hosts Fundraiser

SANTA FE — Vietnam Veterans of America/Northern New Mexico Chapter 996 invites military veterans, retirees, National Guard/Reserve/active-duty personnel, their friends and families, and the general public to its Eighth Annual Matanza fundraiser, 4-9 p.m., Sept. 17 at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds, 3229 Rodeo Road.
 
The theme this year is celebrating the ongoing 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War.

Congressional Delegation Announces $6.5 Million For Construction, Maintenance At 17 New Mexico Airports

STATE News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Representatives Steve Pearce, Ben Ray Luján and Michelle Lujan Grisham announced more than $6.5 million for maintenance and construction projects at 17 New Mexico airports.

The funding was awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration, and will fund runway rehabilitations, fencing construction and other safety improvements at airports across the state.

There is a pedestrian crossing at the corner of Diamond Drive and Sycamore Street. The county ought to paint lines so that unaware drivers will start obeying the law.
 
When a driver sees a pedestrian in a pedestrian crossing appropriate behavior includes slowing down and coming to a stop until the pedestrian has crossed. Other behaviors including  speeding up, screaming, swearing, gesticulating wildly, etc. are not appropriate.

RDC Seeks Proposals For NAVAF

ESPANOLA  Proposals are being accepted through Oct. 18 for the Native American Venture Acceleration Fund (NAVAF) awards from tribally held companies.
 
The Fund was created to boost employment and diversify the economy in Northern New Mexico, and will make awards up to $25,000 to tribally owned companies for critical technical services that lead to increased revenue and job creation. Citing the lack of a prior criminal history, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer sentenced former Los Alamos pastor Paul Cunningham to 12 months in jail followed by two years of supervised probation.

Cunningham, 54, was facing 4.5 years in jail for his crimes, but after he pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography and one count of distributing it, the District Attorney’s Office recommended the lighter sentence and the judge agreed.
