Hilltop House Hotel owner New Mexico Innovation Triangle, LLC, has wrapped caution tape around the perimeter of the property at 400 Trinity Dr.
The company has appealed a resolution passed Oct. 29 by Los Alamos County Council, which declared the dilapidated property ‘a menace to public comfort, health, peace and safety’.
Council gave the owner 10 days to appeal or commence removing the building, otherwise council would have the building demolished and removed from the site and a lien placed on the property.
Council’s action was in response to a report by Los Alamos County Fire Marshal Wendy Servey deeming the Hilltop House a clear and inimical threat to human life, safety and health.
Santa Fe Attorney Karl Sommer, who represents the Hilltop House owner, spoke about the owner’s response to the resolution at the Oct. 29 meeting.
“We intend to address the matter as quickly as we possibly can and keep you informed of our efforts,” Sommer said. “We understand what the concerns of the council and the County are and that they are serious. We don’t take this lightly. We understand that you need to move along so we will keep in touch with your council, do what we can do and see if we can avoid any necessity of action on the part of council in this regard … we intend to act; we’ve run into problems – some of which are beyond our control.”
While awaiting the appeal process, New Mexico Innovation Triangle, LLC, has taped off the property as a safety precaution for the public.
