Over 52K Sign Care2 Petition Calling On The FBI To Label KKK A Terrorist Organization

CARE2 News:

A Care2 petition has garnered over 52,000 signatures targeting the FBI to create a domestic terrorist list to be managed and published by the US State Department and include the KKK and their affiliated white supremacist hate groups, following the violence in Charlottesville.

“The KKK is a HATE group responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people of color through the decades,” Naomi Miller writes on her Care2 petition. “The recent deadly events in Charlottesville make it clear that members of these groups are willing to kill to advance their efforts to start a race war.”

The KKK are celebrating the death of Heather Heyer, the activist who was run down in Charlottesville by white supremacist James Alex Fields – an act of domestic terrorism. The grand dragon of the Loyal White Knights of the KKK said he was “glad that girl died.”

According to media reports, this NC KKK chapter is also sharing a recorded message that says: “Nothing makes us more proud at the KKK than…white patriots such as James Fields Jr, age 20, taking his car and running over nine communist anti-fascist, killing one [expletive]-lover named Heather Heyer.”

“Currently, the State Department has a foreign terrorist organization list,” notes Miller in her Care2 petition. “It’s time for the FBI to have a similar, domestic list. The KKK and their affiliated hate groups MUST be labeled as terrorists.”

The U.S. State Department bureau of counterterrorism states on their website that FTO (Foreign Terrorist Organization) “designations play a critical role in our fight against terrorism and are an effective means of curtailing support for terrorists activities and pressuring groups to get out of the terrorism business.”

They go on to outline the legal criteria for FTO designation which includes the following:

  • It must be a foreign organization.
  • The organization must engage in terrorist activity, as defined in section 212 (a)(3)(B) of the INA (8 U.S.C. § 1182(a)(3)(B)),* or terrorism, as defined in section 140(d)(2) of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Years 1988 and 1989 (22 U.S.C. § 2656f(d)(2)),** or retain the capability and intent to engage in terrorist activity or terrorism.
  • The organization’s terrorist activity or terrorism must threaten the security of U.S. nationals or the national security (national defense, foreign relations, or the economic interests) of the United States.

Following the violence in Charlottesville there is firm evidence that the KKK would qualify if they were a foreign organization.
