The weekend of Aug. 4-6 promises much excitement at St. Job of Pochaiv Orthodox Christian Church in Los Alamos with the visit of Metropolitan Antony, Prime Hierarch and Ruling Hierarch of the church’s Eastern Eparchy, and Archbishop Daniel, President of the Consistory and Ruling Hierarch of the Western Eparchy.

Metropolitan Antony and Archbishop Daniel are the two leaders of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States.

“This is a very exciting event for St. Job of Pochaiv,” said Father Theophan of St. Job of Pochaiv. “Archbishop Daniel has been to Los Alamos before, but the likelihood of the two Bishops being here at the same time ever again is pretty remote.”

Father Theophan, his family and his small congregation have been busy making preparations. He will be joined by Father John Bethancourt of the Antiochian Church of the Holy Trinity in Santa Fe for some of the weekend services as well as monks from the Monastery of the Holy Archangel Michael in Canones.

At 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, Vespers will be held at St. Job of Pochaiv. On Saturday morning, the Feast of Our Lady of Pochaiv will be celebrated and an icon of her that was written by Father Theophan will be brought into the church and put in the High Place. At 10 a.m., Archbishop Daniel will serve the Divine Liturgy and the community is invited to attend.

Following Saturday’s Divine Liturgy, the two Bishops will join church members as well as members of the community for a banquet at Pasta Paradiso. Tickets are $14 for adults and may be obtained from Father Theophan at the church office. Great Vespers will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, also.

Sunday, Aug. 6, church members will attend the blessing of the church and the commemoration of St. Boris and St. Hleib as well as an afternoon meeting with the two Bishops.
