Just One Thing To Do This Week: Turn On The Light

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

Father’s Day is just around the corner. This year we celebrate the occasion Sunday, June 18.

There are a wide variety of gifts that make every Dad feel loved and cherished. This would include anything having to do with fire- grills, smokers, and endless selection of accoutrements; anything sharp or pointy such as knives and tools; and anything powered by electricity or batteries that would ideally shoot flames while cutting.

If all the items on the wish list have been fulfilled, then there is always the option of alcohol…which will just make every other gift seem Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To Ms. Redondo

By LYNN HANRAHAN
Los Alamos

We have four local outdoor pools all offering swimming lessons now. Some of the pools are happy to offer lessons to nonmembers. If you or a child in your life can’t swim call now!

There are morning lessons, evening lessons, and reasonably priced private lessons. Many teens in the community have taken the time to become Water Safety Instructor certified because they love teaching kids to swim.

My daughter is one of these teens. Only 42 percent of American children have the aquatic skills they should. Please

Classical Music World: Notes From Cliburn 8

By ANN MCLAUGHLIN
Artistic Director
Los Alamos Concert Association

Los Alamos Concert Association Board member and friend Dorothy Amsden asked me what happens to the competitors in the Cliburn Competition who are eliminated at the end of each round. “Do they remain for the rest of the competition or do they return home, tail between the legs, poor things?” she wondered.

Jimenez: Ripple Effects Of President’s Budget Cuts

By JAMES JIMENEZ
Executive Director
New Mexico Voices for Children

Our communities do best when everyone contributes. We are strengthened when our children fulfill their potential and become the entrepreneurs, teachers, and artists they were born to be.

And because no one reaches their potential without a little help, our nation provides opportunities to those who would otherwise be unable to access them. We do this not just because it’s the right thing to do, but also because these are investments that will pay off for all of us with a better

Letter To The Editor: Thoughts On Various Subjects…

By GREG WHITE
Los Alamos

Greg White is my real name Mr. Chapman. You can often see me at council meetings speaking my mind even though I see them all put earplugs in as I approach the mic.

Here, here Mr. Horne. Not only did we vote to keep the Sheriff but the 1959, 1963 and 1966 tries to pass a Charter with no Sheriff all failed because the people want a functional Sheriff not a figurehead. The only way the first charter 1968 passed was putting back in the elected Sheriff and the several attempts in between to remove the position of Sheriff have all failed also. What citizens need to be demanding
