Pastor Granillo: Perfect Love Part 1

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO

Christian perfection is that love of God and our neighbor… –John Wesley

Growing up, I was always under the impression that being a Christian was for the sake of going to heaven rather than hell. This was, and still is, a sad simplification. This “Jesus, to get to heaven” mentality has caused many to miss out on the fullness of the gospel, and others to simply reject it. It may even keep many of us from obeying the will of God. Let me explain.

Jesus often spoke of the importance of the Holy Spirit. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,

World Futures: Who Do You Trust – Or Is It Whom? Part Three

By ANDY ANDREWS
Los Alamos World Futures Institute

In the previous two columns we explored how we make collective decisions for saving earth and humanity. These decisions encompassed both the what and the how, with how being the creative or most difficult part. We looked at the Special Theory of Relativity, cold fusion, reporting on a survey, the U.S. Constitution, the Communist Manifesto, and the Paris Agreement. Now it is appropriate to explore implications for parts of the List of 18.

Letter To The Editor: Response To Mr. Spencer

By GREG WHITE
Los Alamos

In regard to Mr. Spencer’s letter (link), details do matter especially in the law. He is correct that this is an open carry state and the actual law is close to but not accurately reflected on the New Mexico State Police website.

Perhaps they missed a change to the law. The law should always be checked at the official legal site for all of New Mexico’s laws, state and local. That would be the New Mexico Compilation Commission (link).

Also despite the Constitution of New Mexico expressly forbidding any laws against guns, the legislature

Home Country: Lots Of Love At Old Swimming Hole

By SLIM RANDLES
Home Country

Bert and Maizie were down at the swimming hole on Lewis Creek the other day. Saturday it was. The sun was bright hot and these two lovers had found a nice patch of shade near the tire swing tree where they could sip iced tea and watch the youngsters.

The little kids were in the shallow wading area, some in underwear, some in none-derwear, and all of them squealing and splashing. The kids who had turned 13 or 14, however, waited their turns at the tire swing. One by one they swung out, flashing in the sun, arching and stretching and

Just One Thing To Do This Week: Throw A Party

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

I really love throwing a good party, and I have been organizing and hosting gatherings both personally and professionally for nearly 40 years. One of the first events I ever hosted was a housewarming party. My now ex-husband and I had bought a brand new tract home in a starter neighborhood.
We were thrilled to be homeowners. It was March in Phoenix and I was heavily pregnant. My daughter was two years old and my son was due in a few short weeks.
I had worked for days to get our new home clean and organized. We had decorated and covered the folding tables in lovely linens,

A Functional But Limited Sheriff’s Office For Los Alamos

By PETE SHEEHEY
Los Alamos County Councilor

The County Council will consider the role of the Sheriff in Los Alamos in a Special Session at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 26 at the Los Alamos Municipal Building.

The Council, not including myself, called an election last November to eliminate the office. After a contentious campaign, Los Alamos voted to keep an elected Sheriff. I believe a majority on Council now accepts that our citizens want a functional Sheriff’s Office. We need to agree on what the Sheriff’s functions will be.

I am proposing
