Hosted by the Los Alamos and Española Opera Guilds of The Santa Fe Opera, four members of Young Voices will perform a short program at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20 at Fuller Lodge.

It was March 1, 2020 when members of the group last performed for this “annual” event. Guild members planning this event are thrilled to welcome four members of the group back.

The performance is open to all – families with children are welcome. Masks and vaccinations are requested. Donations are appreciated. Memberships to either of the guilds are available. Five guilds in the communities of Española Valley, Los Alamos, Taos, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque jointly support the education outreach programs of The Santa Fe Opera.

We are most excited to have students from four of our northern New Mexico communities:

Soprano Samantha Brown lives in White Rock;

Soprano Arlo Jennings in Española;

Soprano Charlotte Grenier in El Rito; and

Baritone Alexander Waters in Los Alamos.

They will be accompanied by SFO faculty member pianist Paul Roth. The four high school students will present a short recital of arias and songs.

The Young Voices of the Santa Fe Opera program under the direction of Kathleen Clawson was created in January 2008 to encourage, nurture, and guide high school students who exhibit talent, desire, and potential for singing classical music. Auditions are held each year and approximately 14 students are chosen. Following the school year from September through May, they perform at various cultural events, including the state legislature. Their year culminates with a public recital.

The students receive voice lessons and musical coaching, training in diction, music theory, and basic acting from the Santa Fe Opera’s music staff (free of charge) as well as Master Classes from visiting guest artists. Since the inception of the program, 93 students have participated in the program and many are now pursuing further studies in prestigious music programs.
