WALTER JOSEPH BETTINGER Nov. 9, 1932 – July 3, 2026
Walter Joseph Bettinger passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 3, 2026 in Henderson, Nevada at the age of 93.
Walter was born on November 9, 1932 and grew up in Golden Colorado. He joined the Marines at the age of 17 and was called into service during the Korean war stationed in Kansas, where he was an aircraft mechanic. His patriotism and pride for his country would be a defining characteristic throughout the rest of his life. He was known to proudly fly his American flag and celebrate Independence Day with zeal.
Walter met Anita through a mutual friend and they were married on October 21, 1961. They raised four children in Los Alamos, NM where he worked as a Draftsman for 33 years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Walter had a strong Catholic faith and was a Lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, becoming a Fourth Degree Knight. The Knights of Columbus brought many years of enjoyment and life long friendships.
Walter and Anita retired to Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and later moved to Henderson, Nevada to be close to family.
Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He dearly loved his family and brightened the lives he touched. He had a big heart and always had room to love more. His heart was full of joy anytime he had an animal to pet or care for.

He loved making people laugh, even if the joke was at his expense, taking scenic drives, and working in his yard. He was always our go-to person whenever we needed anything. He took the best care of his family and we will miss him deeply.
Walter is survived by his wife, Anita, son Phillip (Ellen), daughters Lesann (Marvin), and Janet, and son Daniel (Whitney), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters: Rosaline and Donna, brothers: Robert and Ronald.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Anna, brother Raymond sisters: Mary Ann, Irene, Lucille, and Patricia.
He will be laid to rest at the Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.
