Obituary: Virginia Marie Marshall Reichelt Dec. 22, 2018

VIRGINIA MARIE MARSHALL REICHELT Dec. 22, 2018

Virginia Marie Marshall Reichelt passed out of this world Dec. 22, 2018. Her chronological age at passing was 92, but depending on the day and situation she would tell you it was 94 (if she wanted to impress upon you the full weight of her years and wisdom); and even 90 (for days she preferred ease of counting); or not a day over 25 (if you were tallying only her love for life).

Ginny was a long-time resident of Los Alamos. She was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the daughter of James Leroy and Maude Higgins Marshall and the brother of Eugene. She was married to Walter Reichelt, a physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She raised three sons, all of whom were and are “Mr. Perfect”, according to Ginny herself. For many years Virginia was a technical editor at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She served as sole editor on numerous scientific treatises or high-level publications. Her sharp eye for design and good sentence structure kept her continually busy.

To do justice to Virginia’s life, we must here also note that her marriage of 67 years was of the kind we all only can aspire to having–that she and her husband flattened every ski slope in the tri-state area– that she sang in folk band Four-Fifths and played the piano, the banjo, and the recorder– that she travelled the world and studied for a year in France. At the end of her life she was still holding conversations with friends and family in a fluent French, and always with a glass of her beloved red wine in hand.

Late in her life you could find Virginia at Aspen Ridge Lodge, where she was known for her sharp wit, kind heart, and humor. Ginny’s great gift was living exactly the life she wanted to live, age be damned. Her friends there will remember her with fondness.

Ginny leaves behind a deep imprint on just about everybody who ever had the joy of meeting her, but most especially with her brother Eugene and his wife Carolyn, her sons Richard, Steve, and Jim, her three daughters-in-law, Lauren, Christina, and Marney, her grandchildren Chloe, Ben, Dianna (and husband Danny Durkin), Aria and Dylan, and her great-grandson Owen. The memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.

We will miss you, Sugarfoot.
