VIRGIL W. SCOTT March 1, 1927 Sept. 9, 2016

Virgil W. Scott, age 89, resident of Los Alamos, NM passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Virgil was born on March 1, 1927 in Memphis, TN to Pauline Caswell and Richard Scott who preceded him in death. He married Betty Lavey, April 21, 1948 in Alton, Illinois.

Virgil is survived by wife, Betty Scott of Los Alamos, daughter and caretaker, Kimberly Scott of Los Alamos, son, Paul Scott and wife Nelda of Cleburne, TX and daughter, Kathy Gibbons of Los Alamos. Also survived by 16 Grandkids, 22 Great Grandkids and 1 Great Great Grand daughter. As well as, two of the best life long friends, Lyle and Peggi Edwards of Los Alamos, NM.

Virgil graduated from Alton High School in 1944 in Alton, Illinois. He went on to serve in the US Army. In 1948 he met and married the love of his life, Betty Lavey. They shared 68 years together. In 1959 he heard about a labortory that needed quality machinists in Los Alamos, NM. He came for an interview, and with his superb machining skills and great references, was hired and started working for the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory for the next 33 years. Virgil and Betty raised 4 kids, Paul Scott, Sandra Embry, Kimberly Scott and Kathy Gibbons and spent the next 57 years together in Los Alamos. Virgil was a feisty man, but had a giving heart. He volunterred for many years, and was the head of the March of Dimes and the Los Alamos Civitan Club. Virgil’s family has wonderful memories of him and he will be missed very much.

He will be buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10:30 am. Oct 3.
