Vera G. Martinez, 88, a resident of Palmilla Senior Living passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents Nick and Bessie Gallegos, father of her children Henry J. Martinez, her sister Laura Lujan, sister Lillian Salazar, and brother Roy Gallegos.
She was born to Nicasio (Nick) Gallegos and Vicentita (Bessie) Gallegos on April 10, 1933 in Jacona, New Mexico and worked for over 40 years for the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Dancing and singing were among Vera’s greatest joys as were her arts and crafts; she worked in tin, stained glass, tile and jewelry – something she loved almost as much as spending time in her garden and with her family. Her perfect nails and seemingly endless collection of jewelry reflected her colorful and energetic personality.
She was survived by her two daughters; Yvonne Montoya (Lawrence), and Carolyn Reagin (Scot), her son Edward Martinez (Debbie), sisters Eva Boettcher (Gordon), and Marvine Garcia (Ray), and her brother Nick Gallegos (Gloria); her six grandchildren, Ashley Pacheco (Aaron), Christopher Montoya, Camille and Caitlin Reagin, Jerrica Wild (George), Sara Martinez and three great-grandchildren: Henry Pacheco, Landon and Carter Wild.
Special recognition is extended to the staff at Palmilla Senior Living and Amber care Hospice for their loving care and support during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association and The American Cancer Society.
Services will take place Wednesday July, 14th at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe del Valle de Pojoaque. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. After the funeral mass burial will take place at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery.
