THOMAS KEVIN MCHENRY Oct. 22, 1953 – Oct. 10, 2021

Thomas Kevin McHenry of Emporia, KS, passed away peacefully, after a long battle with asbestosis, surrounded by family on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the University of Kansas St. Francis Hospital Campus in Topeka. He was 67.

Tom was born on October 22, 1953 in Gary, Indiana the son of Robert Eugene and Nora Marie (Garvey) McHenry. He married the love of his life, Donna K. Warren, on October 20, 1973 in Hobart, Indiana.

Surviving family members include: wife, Donna K. McHenry of Emporia; sons, Thomas McHenry, Jr. (Sara) of Chicago, Illinois, and Andrew McHenry (Elizabeth) of Emporia; grandson, William McHenry of Emporia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Nancy Chattin, and brother Scott McHenry.

Tom was a welder at Bethlehem Steel (Burns Harbor, IN) for 41 years. He resided in Valparaiso, IN for 36 years where he was involved in sports officiating, a member of Valpo Vettes, and most of all he enjoyed raising his family and watching them succeed.

He graduated from Purdue University (BS, Computer Technology) in 2001 and was a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. He retired to Los Alamos, NM where he enjoyed spending his mornings with his beloved coffee crew and dogs, Harley and Wilber, at Ruby K’s Bagel Shop. His final two years of life were spent in Emporia, KS where he enjoyed quality time getting to know his grandson. Mercifully, the Purdue football team had a bye week on October 9th, so he was spared from the pain of seeing them lose one last time.

Cremation is planned with two celebration of life ceremonies at later dates. The first celebration will be held in Valparaiso, IN. The second celebration will be held in Los Alamos, NM.
