Obituary: Shirley Ann Huber July 23, 1944 – Nov. 3, 2021

SHIRLEY ANN HUBER July 23, 1944 – Nov. 3, 2021

Shirley Ann Huber, 77, a lifelong resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, with her dear friend and caretaker, Doris Baca at her side.

She is preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Ann Huber and her brother Gerry.

A celebration of life and mass honoring Shirley will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, December 18th at 11:00 am. Reception following service at Fuller Lodge.

Shirley was born on July 23, 1944 and moved to New Mexico with her parents when she was eight months old. She graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1962. On November 11, 1965, she accepted a position with Los Alamos County (then the Zia Company) as a finance clerk typist in the data processing unit. This was the beginning of a 55-year career with the County. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other health issues she reluctantly retired on March 31, 2021.

Shirley will always be remembered for her love of the holidays, especially Christmas. She was an avid knitter and gifted her special slippers to many of her coworkers over the decades. Shirley also quietly provided for many needy families in the community every holiday season. Some she did through her work on the County Employee Benefits Committee. But most she did by purchasing gifts throughout the year and anonymously delivering them to churches throughout the County.

This Christmas just won’t be the same without Santa’s favorite elf. Shirley’s legacy will live on in the lives that she touched. She will especially be missed by her beloved friends and their families whom she “adopted” including Doris Baca, Matthew Casados, Denise Cassel, Sharyl Hofer, and Beth Pattillo.
