RUTH A. CHAVEZ July 8, 1931 – July 30, 2018

Ruth Adelina Chavez, beloved Mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully July 30, 2018 in Los Alamos and is now on to her next journey. 

She will be remembered for her warm smile and zest for life and carrot cake. Ruth worked for Los Alamos Public Schools for over 40 years and was the strong business woman beside her beloved and late husband Max. Residing in Los Alamos for nearly 70 years, and raising 5 kids locally, she was well known and popular. 

She is survived by three sons Abel Chavez of Pueblo, Colorado, R. Gary Chavez of Los Alamos and Felix Chavez and wife Gloria of El Rancho; one grandson, Armando Chavez and his wife Julie of Pleasanton, CA; two granddaughters Kristen Chavez of El Rancho and Kamille Chavez and her fiancée Chris Sanchez of Los Alamos; two great grandsons Nolan and Eli Chavez of Pleasanton, CA and one great granddaughter Aaliyah Chavez of El Rancho. She is also survived by two sisters Viola Medina and husband Luther of Fort Garland, CO and Genevieve Maestas of San Pablo, Colorado and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Helen and Chris Ortega of White Rock, who were affectionately known as family members, too. Her daughter, Luci Chavez, passed away in Los Alamos in 2009.

Funeral services will be provided by DeVargas Funeral Home with a Rosary and Funeral Mass to be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church located at 3700 Canyon Road in Los Alamos. Rosary will be held at 9:00 a.m. with Mass held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10. Reception details will be announced at the Mass. In lieu flowers, the family requests a donation to the charity of donor’s choice. A private burial will be held in Ft. Garland, CO at a later date.
